My name is Cindy Maraist Gioe. I was born and raised in Morgan City, La and I now live in Slidell, La. Although I moved away after High School, my hometown roots run very deep.
In the mid to late 1990’s I remember watching my dad, Buzzy Maraist, stirring the pot until his roux was the perfect color. My love and passion for cooking began around that time.
In 2009, I decided to take my Roux to the next level by adding in the Trinity of Vegetables and Seasoning, jarring and freezing it to use anytime I wanted to cook a gumbo. After years of preparing my Roux for family and close friends, I decided to test the waters and sell it to the public.
In 2018, I sold around 100 pint size jars. In 2019, I sold 250 pint size jars.
By the Grace of God, and with my daddy watching me from heaven, my business took off in 2020. From mid-September through the end of January 2021, I have sold and personally delivered over 800 pint size containers of Roux to customers throughout South Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
With every batch, I feel the presence of my daddy helping me “stir the pot” just like he taught me more than 25 years ago.
In addition to perfecting my Roux for a consistent taste with every hand stirred batch, I have also perfected my recipe for “Cindy’s Almost Famous Gumbo”. Whether it be Chicken & Sausage, Seafood, Turkey & Andouille or any other combination, my simple and easy recipe requires only 4 ingredients: Cindy’s Almost Famous Roux, Meat, Stock, and Chopped green onions and you’re GOOD TO GUMBO!!!
